Application Guide

ASAHI Culture Academy welcomes international students twice a year (April and October). The information below summarizes the basic requirements for application. Please contact our office for full details.

2. Educational Goals​

ASAHI Culture Academy's founding philosophy is to contribute to Japan's vibrant future through Japanese language education and to nurture talent that can thrive in Japanese society. Our three educational goals are:

  1. To develop solid Japanese language ability needed for advancement to higher education and for daily life in Japan.
  2. To foster students' autonomous thinking, learning, and decision-making.
  3. To respect diverse cultural backgrounds and cultivate individuals who can adapt as members of a co-existing society.

2-Year Advancement Course​

  • Target level: CEFR-J for Japanese B2.2 (upper-B2)
  • Goals: Achieve advanced Japanese proficiency, enabling smooth and natural communication with native speakers including complex technical discussions in specialized fields. Develop expressive ability to construct logical arguments from diverse perspectives, and become an "autonomous learner" capable of analyzing learning challenges and proactively managing one's own learning process.

1.5-Year Advancement Course​

  • Target level: CEFR-J for Japanese B2.1 (lower-B2)
  • Goals: Accurately follow lectures and complex discussions in specialized fields at target vocational schools and universities, and integrate diverse perspectives on social issues. Be able to converse naturally with proficient Japanese speakers, present arguments logically with appropriate supporting evidence, and proactively plan, manage, and adjust your own learning.

4. Eligibility​

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  1. Have completed (or are expected to complete) 12 or more years of school education, or have equivalent academic ability as recognized by our school, and be in good physical and mental health.
  2. Have a financial sponsor capable of covering all expenses.
  3. Be legally permitted to enter Japan (or expected to be granted permission).
  4. Be able to demonstrate Japanese ability equivalent to A1 or above on the CEFR-J for Japanese.
  5. Have strong motivation and a firm intention to complete our curriculum.
  6. Be willing to abide by all school regulations.

5. Selection Process​

  1. First-stage review: Document screening
  2. Second-stage review: Written test and listening test
  3. Third-stage review: Three-party interview with the applicant, financial sponsor, and the school (native-language support available)

Applicant Documents​

  1. 4 ID photos (4 cm × 3 cm), taken within the last 3 months, unedited
  2. Resume and pledge (school-provided form)
  3. Original diploma or expected-graduation certificate from the most recent school
  4. Transcript (all years) or certificate from the most recent school
  5. Proof of Japanese ability at A1 (CEFR-J) or above, such as:
    • JLPT N5 or above
    • BJT Business Japanese Test 300+ points
    • J.TEST Grade F or above
    • NAT-TEST Grade 5 or above
    • STBJ Standard Business Japanese Test 350+ points
    • TOPJ Beginner A or above
    • J-cert Beginner or above
    • JLCT JCT 5 or above
    • PJC Bridge C or above
    • JPT 315+ points
    • JOT (Japanese Online Test) JT5 or above
    • Sundai Japanese Proficiency Test (S-JEP) 300+ points
  6. Employment certificate (if currently employed)

Financial Sponsorship Documents​

  1. Statement of financial support (form designated by the Immigration Services Agency)
  2. Documents proving the relationship between sponsor and applicant (household registry copies of all family members, etc.)
  3. Bank balance certificate (equivalent of 3,000,000 yen for 2-year course / 2,250,000 yen for 1.5-year course) and 1-year copy of the bankbook
  4. Proof of how funds were accumulated (1-year bank transaction statement, etc.)
  5. Employment certificate (for self-employed: business license copy; for officers: corporate registry copy, etc.) and income certificate
  6. Tax payment certificate (past 1 year)

For Sponsors Resident in Japan​

  1. Statement of financial support (form designated by the Immigration Services Agency)
  2. Bank balance certificate (equivalent of 3,000,000 yen for 2-year course / 2,250,000 yen for 1.5-year course) and 1-year copy of the bankbook
  3. Proof of how funds were accumulated (1-year bank transaction statement, etc.)
  4. Employment certificate (for self-employed: business license copy; for officers: corporate registry copy, etc.) and income certificate
  5. Gross income certificate (a tax payment certificate showing gross income, issued by the prefecture/municipality)
  6. Resident card / certificate of residence (for all family members)

8. From Application to Enrollment​

  1. Request application materials
  2. Submit required documents by the deadline
  3. Pay the ¥30,000 application fee
  4. Document screening, written test, listening test, and three-party interview
  5. Admission granted
  6. The school applies to the Immigration Services Agency for the Certificate of Eligibility on the student's behalf
  7. Review results are announced; Certificate of Eligibility is issued
  8. Pay tuition. Upon confirmation, we send the Certificate of Eligibility and admission letter to the applicant
  9. Applicant applies for a "Student" visa at the Japanese consulate in their country
  10. Arrange housing or student dormitory in advance
  11. Enter Japan and receive a residence card upon arrival
  12. Entrance ceremony

9. Housing​

1) Student Dormitories​

Our dormitories are within a 1 km walking radius of the school, located in pleasant residential neighborhoods close to the station. All dormitories are fully equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi, with free access to bathrooms and toilets, providing a comfortable and clean living space.

Room rates vary by dormitory:

Approx. ¥15,000–¥30,000 per person / month (rooms shared by 2–4 people; utilities billed separately)

:::note Move-in payment Before moving in, students pay the year's tuition, a ¥50,000 dormitory deposit, approximately ¥6,000 for bedding, and 2 months of dormitory fees (including common-area fees) as a lump sum.

The deposit is refunded (minus a ¥5,000 key-change fee) if the room and furnishings are returned undamaged and in their original condition. :::

Notes

  1. If the application is cancelled after submission, the ¥50,000 deposit becomes a cancellation fee and is non-refundable.
  2. On move-out, cleaning fees, repair costs, key-change fee, and any unpaid utility bills are deducted from the deposit.
  3. Gas and electricity are billed at actual usage.

2) Airport Pickup​

Students moving into the school dormitory will be picked up at Chubu Centrair International Airport and escorted to the dorm.

3) For Those Not Choosing the Dormitory​

We can introduce real-estate agencies and provide rental-contract support.

10. Estimated Living Costs​

For two people sharing a dormitory room, monthly living costs are approximately ¥80,000:

11. Part-Time Work​

  1. International students may work part-time once they receive permission for activities outside the scope of their visa status. We assist with submitting the permit application upon entry to Japan.
  2. Under Article 19 (2) of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, the working hours of international students are in principle limited to 28 hours per week.
  3. During long school breaks (summer, winter, etc.) defined in the school regulations, the limit is extended to 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week.
